    Repatriation Coordinator and Curator of Native American Cultures

    Under the general direction of the Museum's Director, and with guidance from UCLA's Chancellor's Designee on Repatriation the NAGPRA Repatriation Coordinator and Curator of Native American Cultures serves as the campus's designated authority under the University of California Native American Cultural Affiliation and Repatriation Policy ("UC Policy"). Develops tribal relationships that acknowledge and respect a Tribe's sovereignty, cultural protocols, and cultural and religious practices and knowledge. Works across campus departments to achieve the university's goals around the timely and respectful return of Native American ancestors and cultural items. Ensures the university is compliant with all aspects of NAGPRA, CalNAGPRA and the UC Policy. In addition, the position manages and organizes the Fowler Museum's Native American collections and associated documentation. Contributes to the development of exhibitions related to Native American cultures. Seeks grant funds to support repatriation and collaborative community projects. Supervises the Archeological Collections Manager (who supervises a repatriation team including two leads, student employees, and interns) an archivist, and others needed to meet compliance requirements.

    The University NAGPRA Specialist will manage the development and implementation of the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act compliance and repatriation program for Western Kentucky University, including the Department of Folk Studies and Anthropology and the Kentucky Museum. The Specialist will represent WKU as the primary contact for the NAGPRA program and ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations for NAGPRA-eligible collections curated by the University. This is 12-month, full-time, on-campus staff position with benefits. The position is currently being filled as a temporary one-year position; however, it has the potential for renewal in future years. Salary range is $41,000 – $50,000.

    The University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY invites applications for a post-doctoral scholar position to serve as Osteologist for NAGPRA (Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act). This position will be responsible for performing documentation/analysis on NAGPRA osteology collections as needed, including inventorying, building a biological profile, estimating MNI, and assisting with reburial preparation if needed. Processing and cataloguing of all ancestral remains will be in accordance with policies and procedures established during the consultation processes and respect for and sensitivity to this type of work are imperative
