    The Tennessee Division of Archaeology is pleased to announce our new Archaeologist 2 position will post for application on November 6, 2019.  This application period will be open for two weeks.This position will be part of our Technical Assistance group that: (1) responds to requests for archaeological information from external and internal customers; (2) performs map and archival reviews; (3) conducts field reconnaissance surveys and test excavations; (4) responds to burial discovery calls; and (5) conducts research projects and presentations on Tennessee archaeology.

    Under the general supervision of the State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO), the Deputy State Historic Preservation Officer (DSHPO) manages program areas within the State Historic Preservation Office.  This position administers and supervises numerous preservation programs for the Division including, but not limited to the state and federal historic preservation tax credit programs; the administration of federal surveys and subgrants through the Certified Local Government program; the maintenance of the state’s Architecture and History Inventory (AHI); the National Register of Historic Places and the Wisconsin State Register of Historic Places programming; and the award of grants through the Fuldner Heritage Fund.  This position supervises and manages permanent and LTE staff of the State Historic Preservation Office at the Wisconsin Historical Society.  This position directs, coordinates, prepares, and promotes research related to Wisconsin’s historic properties.


    The position also independently reviews federal, state, and local actions for effects on historic resources in accordance with the federal and state laws and regulations established under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, and ss. 44.39-42 and ss. 66.0413, 66.1111. and 120.12(21) Wis. Stats.
