Archaeologist / Research Assistant – Kansas State University

Kansas State University (K-State) is accepting applications for an Archaeologist (Research Assistant) to serve on K-State’s archeology support team at Ft Riley, Kansas.  Primary duties include working with a team of two other archaeologists to perform archaeological surveys, site assessments, and site monitoring; assist with curation, classification, and description of recovered remains; and provide support for writing technical reports. 

This full-time position does not require travel beyond the Ft. Riley workstation, thus, allows a stable home base in the Manhattan-Ft Riley area.  This is also a benefits eligible position including a comprehensive benefits package that includes health insurance, retirement plans, and paid vacation, sick, and holiday leave. 

Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a related field and have completed a formal archaeological field school or comparable training or experience. Preferred qualifications include having earned a master's degree in anthropology, archaeology, or related field; 24 months of relevant experience with archaeological field work; experience in CRM, and preferably previous experience with archaeology of the Great Plains, Kansas, or the Flint Hills region.

This position is funded through May 31, 2024.
