Annual Meeting

The 67th Meeting of the Illinois Archaeological Survey will be held IN PERSON and hosted by the Center for Archaeological Investigations at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois on September 22-23, 2023. Join us Friday, September 22 at a welcome reception for new members from 6:00-9:00 p.m. in Faner Hall on the SIU Carbondale Campus. Beer, wine, and food provided! 

The annual business meeting of the IAS will be held Saturday, September 23, at 9:00 a.m. on the SIU campus in the Neckers Building. The business meeting will be followed by the award ceremony and paper presentations. The meeting is open to the public and free of charge.

Papers on current research will be presented in the morning and more formal papers will be saved for Saturday afternoon. Please submit your paper or poster title and abstract to IAS President Mark Wagner at The deadline for submissions is Monday, September 11, 2023.

A block of rooms has been reserved at the Home2Suites Hilton Carbondale - (200 W Elm St. Carbondale, IL). This hotel is a short 4-minute drive from campus in Carbondale’s entertainment district, better known as “The Strip”, with a variety of restaurants and bars within walking distance. Reserve a room for the special rate of $109 by September 8. See attached document for hotel reservation information. Friday’s Reception will be held in the Atrium on the 2nd Floor of Faner Hall. Saturday’s meeting will be in the auditorium on the 1st floor of the Neckers Building. Saturday evening, the City of Carbondale will be offering a free concert for those who wish to stay an extra evening in Carbondale! Parking on the SIU campus will be free during the events.
