The Illinois State Archaeological Survey (ISAS), a Division of the Prairie Research Institute, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, is seeking a Senior Research Archaeologist for the Special Projects Division based in Champaign, Illinois. Senior Research Archaeologists interact with staff as they carry out analyses of archaeological data and the preparation of reports of archaeological research meeting professional and regulatory standards. This individual oversees, as well as performs, archaeological analyses and coordinates, as necessary, the various specialists to create a final report and/or publication. May serve in a leadership capacity functioning as a project director, section leader, or be delegated to act in place of the Special Projects Assistant or Associate Directors.

The successful candidate must have an MA (PhD preferred), in anthropology, archaeology, or a closely related field, plus a minimum of five years of relevant field, analytical, and laboratory experience in Eastern Woodlands archaeology (experience in CRM and/or transportation archaeology preferred), scientific and technical knowledge of Eastern Woodlands prehistoric and historic archaeology, a basic familiarity with Federal and Illinois historic and burial laws, administrative experience in personnel, and facilities management, as well as a demonstrated ability to manage research projects, analyses, and report preparation in a team setting and to bring them to closure in a timely and competent manner. Preference will be given to those candidates who have demonstrated archaeological excavation, analysis, and publication experience in Midwestern prehistoric and historic archaeological sites. Must have a basic familiarity with computer word processing, graphic, and database programs. This is an academic professional position. Salary is negotiable based on experience. Proposed starting date to be negotiated.
