    Archaeologist: Principal Investigator/Field Director

    Weintraut & Associates, Inc., seeks an entry-level Principal Investigator/Field Director to join its cultural resource team in the central Indiana office. The qualified candidate will preferably have a Master’s Degree in Anthropology with a focus on Archaeology and must meet the Secretary of the Interior's Standards (36 CFR 61) in archaeology. Individuals with field experience and a desire to advance their career path will also be considered.

    Responsibilities include:

    Leading Phase I surveys;

    Conducting Phase Ib, Ic, and II testing;

    Working on Phase III mitigation projects;

    Writing and editing reports

    Conducting QAQC on peer’s documents;

    Helping analyze artifacts;

    Providing leadership/mentoring for younger staff.

    The Illinois State Museum Society is looking for a Digital Manager to join the ISM team in the ongoing implementation and transfer of collections data to a new digital assets management system (DAMS). This system will serve the diverse needs of collection management staff as well as support digital assets from the Illinois Legacy Collection (ILC) of 13.5 million objects. The ILC includes cultural objects, artifacts, and art related to the history of the state of Illinois with extensive collection holdings in the fields of Anthropology, Art, Botany, Geology, History, Library Science, Paleontology, and Zoology. The Digital Asset Manager must possess research skills and substantial research experience and knowledge in the fields of anthropology and ethnography.

    The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has an opening in its Historic Preservation Section for an Archaeologist. Our ideal candidate is someone who meets the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualifications Standards for conducting archaeological investigations, and has demonstrated the ability to:

    • Perform/juggle varied & complex historic preservation studies to identify historic properties
    • Assess and document the effects of an undertaking upon historic properties
    • Successfully communicate with Federal & State agencies, tribes, communities, and the public
    • Develop measures to mitigate adverse effects to these properties in compliance with federal laws and regulations.

    The Illinois State Archaeological Survey (ISAS)Prairie Research Institute (PRI), at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is seeking an Architectural Historian to conduct historical research on architectural resources (standing buildings and architectural remains encountered during archaeological investigations) for ISAS and the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). The successful candidate will be required to identify and evaluate those eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) in accordance with the rules and regulations of the National Historic Preservation Act (16 U.S.C. 470) and its implementing regulations (36 CFR 61, Appendix A), and the Illinois State Agency Historic Resources Preservation Act (20 ILCS 3420).     The Missouri Department of Transportation’s Historic Preservation (HP) section is looking for a GIS specialist.

    The HP section consists of 13 archaeologists and architectural historians and is based in the Central Office in Jefferson City.  The GIS specialist will assist the HP section to ensure MoDOT’s compliance with historic preservation regulations, specifically Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. 

    Examples of work that include use of ArcGIS software:

    • inventories and mapping of cultural resources
    • identification and evaluation of historic properties
    • mitigating adverse effects upon historic properties
    • geo-referencing historic maps
    • creating maps for documents
    • producing story maps
    • developing innovative ways to use GIS technology to expand the availability of the recovered data to consulting parties, the general public and professionals
